religious reflection room
heterotopia of compensation

you can't be lost if you have a compass:

so when i was at the detroit airport (not for the first time) i noticed (for the first time) they had a 'religious reflection room' and i had some time so i went to check it out.

as it turns out, someone had already gone and described the journey. i'd add that the entire path there is utilitarian not-designed-for-public-use. i actually had to find an airport employee to verify i could use the elevator, because hell if i wanted to miss my flight and undergo a full body cavity search. the person above links to a fantastic essay about the sacrality of airport heterotopias, also in reference to the detroit location.

the photo above i took.
